Have you ever used a Google search to pull an image for a presentation or to add in your course? Did you know that you may be infringing on copyright law by doing so? This webinar will review basic copyright law pertaining to images and provide useful image resources. 

Description: 
Images are a wonderful way to add interest to a course in a LMS or in a slide deck for a conference or a classroom lecture. However, even in an educational setting, copyright law still applies. There is some wiggle room for educators and students, but we still need to be aware of what images we can use and in what context. This subject has become of increased interest and value as more and more creative content is available through the Internet. 

We will review the very basics of copyright law as it pertains to images, using images in educational and professional settings, and what qualifies as fair use. Knowing these guidelines will be helpful in selecting what images to use in the future. This will help ensure you don’t unknowingly use something you aren’t supposed to. 

In this webinar, we will review some great places you can locate images with zero copyright or that have creative commons licenses. We will also look at what to do if you want to use something that doesn’t have an open or creative commons license. Additionally, we will look at what a proper image citation looks like.

Andrea Fortin is an Associate Professor of Communication as well as the Learning and Engagement Specialist for the Online Learning Department at Hodges University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Communication with a focus on Internet studies in addition to a graduate certificate in Instructional Technology: Distance Learning.
