Our philosophy

We work with brilliant people. Sometimes being a brilliant and revered subject matter expert does not equate being a brilliant professor. Even experienced teachers may not be as effective as they might think they are. Just because someone does something a lot does not mean they do it well. Intent and impact are not always the same.

But here's the thing: teachers can continue to learn

Some people are innately good at teaching, but we believe that anyone can learn the skills and abilities to become effective teachers. Our goal is to provide our faculty with the resources needed to become amazing facilitators of learning. The Office of Teaching and Learning focuses on essential pillars of classroom success.

  1. Enhancing teaching and learning

  2. Optimizing student engagement

  3. Building communities of learners

Within our institution and industry, we must focus on education beyond knowledge, ensuring that our course content and instruction espouse contextual narratives. We must create assessments that are meaningful and intrinsically motivating, which promote mastery of classroom competencies and student outcomes. And we MUST facilitate the transformation of classrooms to networked learning experiences by creating learning environments that elevate student performance. This is what we do. You can catch us giving a webinar, presenting a symposium or workshop, recording a tutorial for our faculty resource center, facilitating a professional development course, or awarding badges and certificates to our amazing faculty.
